Fish is super expensive here in Australia.
I love fish as I grew up in Japan where fish is so fresh and cheap! But finding difficult here in eating as much as I want T_T
I went to Prahran market to buy salmon.
There were 2 different types of salmon, one is from NZ & the other is from Atlantic.
Fish dude (man, I mean) told me NZ salmon is fishy but contains more Omega-3, Atlantic one is less fishy, less Omega-3 and about $5/kg more expensive. My boyfriend let me choose because he is in a cleaning department, not a health department in our house.
Anyway, of course I chose Omega-3 rich NZ one. (cost me $37!!....ummmm, much cheaper than dining out......yes now I feel better)
Fishy smell can be removed by lots of SAKE @_<
It is recommended to eat fish twice (2 servings) per week.
And better get wild than farmed salmon as a lot of chemicals in farmed salmon may cause cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
Although farmed salmon is more fatty (not enough swimming), the fat is not as beneficial as wild salmon's fat. Lazy is not good in fish world too :)
Hi, didin't know farmed salmon is not very good for our health :-( But I love salmon and we mostly eat farmed salmon around NZ i guess. The smell of it doesn't bother me at all though, I suppose we can get very fresh salmon here if we live in NZ. I sometime eat them sashimi too, yummmm!!!
ReplyDeleteI tried kingfish steak the other night and it was really good! All nice oily fish contains more Omega-3 I belieave. Try kingfish next time if you can get them there.
I remember two very disgusted Glen & Sukie after eating 2 huge pieces of salmon in NZ. It was very fishy and the flies flew in the house for days after we finished the meal. I only blame my way of cooking. Haven't got a fish recipe that I think WOW I could eat this everyday (I love fish!). But I can only cook it one way - Chinese steamed fish with lots of ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil and spring onions.
ReplyDeleteShare with me your recipes please. Just the practical ones you usually do at home if you can. I'd love to start eating fish again. In Footscray they are considerably cheaper.
Chinese style sounds nice too. I made pineapple salsa for fish which was also nice. Let's swap recipes. Never tried kingfish, I think. It sounds big. (because of the name of King)Is it?
